How will washing machines evolve in the future?

Nowadays it is difficult for washing machine manufacturers to further reduce the energy and water consumption of their machines. This is what the Test-Achats specialists are seeing.

As a result, innovations are focusing on other aspects such as machine volume, motor type, or connected functions. A brief overview of the latest innovations.

Connected

Probably for some features but not all! For example, via your smartphone you can:

  • monitor the wash cycle remotely
  • start a programme remotely
  • be notified in case of breakdown and find out the type of breakdown by means of a code directly interpreted by the smartphone application. You can then directly notify technical support and schedule an appointment for repair.

Automatic detergent dosing

Thanks to a detector which judges the weight of the laundry, the machine tells you the amount of detergent needed depending on the programme chosen.  The key benefits are cost savings and less unnecessary pollution.

Larger capacity washing machines

Ten years ago, washing machines were designed to wash about 5 kg of laundry. Today, the most popular models are the 7-8 kg and models up to 15 kg are widely available.

Motors that last longer but are less easy to repair

Washing machines are now fitted with induction motors. These last longer but are designed as a block, like an electronic panel. If something breaks, the whole part has to be replaced.
