How can I recognise Sibelga meter readers?

Last updated on:

No-one likes letting a stranger into their house. It’s not sensible. Fortunately, it is easy to recognise a Sibelga meter reader:

  • identification badge: all meter readers always have a Sibelga identification badge with them (a sort of identity card). Do not hesitate to ask to see it.
  • uniform: the meter readers wear a beige uniform with the Sibelga logo.
  • vehicle: sometimes they have a vehicle bearing the Sibelga logo.

Watch out for the following points:

  • The meter reader only needs access to your meters and not to the rest of your home.
  • They usually use a small electronic appliance to record the meter readings.
  • Sometimes they have to take a photograph of the meter reading; so don’t be surprised.
  • They never ask for money. Meter reading is free of charge.

Unfortunately vehicles, uniforms and even badges can be forged. If you are not sure, don’t let the meter reader in.

With the Sibelga meter reading calendar you can soon find out whether meters are being read in your commune or your street that month. If you still have doubts, call Sibelga toll free on 0800 14 004. That way you can be sure!
