Are all meters systematically replaced?

Yes, all old gas and electricity meters are systematically replaced free of charge, by Sibelga, which owns all these meters in the Brussels-Capital Region.

Your meters register your gas and electricity consumption. It is important that this is done correctly. This is why all meters over 30 years old are replaced, even if they are still working properly. This systematic replacement is required by law. Certain models, listed by the Metrology department of the Federal Public Service of the Economy, also have to be replaced.

How is this done? The Sibelga technician first notes down the meter reading from the old meter. Only then is this replaced. The technician then notes the meter reading of the new meter, too, and takes the old one with him.
