What does Brugel do?

Brugel (website in French), the Brussels energy regulator, regulates and monitors the working of the market.

It is responsible for the following tasks:

  • granting licences to electricity and gas suppliers operating in the Brussels-Capital Region
  • granting green power certificates
  • monitoring the distribution system operator for electricity and gas (Sibelga)
  • ensuring compliance with the regional legislation and public service obligations.

In short, Brugel is the contact point for the people of Brussels for everything relating to energy.
