How can I have faulty street lighting repaired quickly?

If the street lighting is not working properly or the bulb in a streetlight is broken, it is best to inform the competent authorities immediately: Sibelga or Brussel Mobiliteit/Bruxelles Mobilité. Make sure you have all the details needed to locate the fault.

  • For lighting in a municipal road: call Sibelga on 02 274 40 66 or use the online form.
  • For lighting in a regional road: call Brussel Mobiliteit/Bruxelles Mobilité on 02 204 22 86, send a fax to 02 204 15 60 or send an e-mail message to mobiris@mrbc.irisnet.be.

Together we keep our streets and squares properly lit at all times.

Is the bulb in a street light flickering or has it failed to come on? Is the street lighting not working? That not just a nuisance, it’s also not safe. Inform the authorities responsible for the municipal or regional road concerned as soon as possible.  If you aren’t sure, first check this list of all regional roads.

  • Municipal road: inform Sibelga. The distribution system operator Sibelga is responsible in the 19 communes of Brussels for the management and maintenance of the lighting in squares, parks and municipal roads. It is best to report a malfunction using the online form. Or you can call 02 274 40 66.

The Sibelga technicians will resolve the problem usually within 5 days.
A fault that jeopardises safety, such as if three or more bulbs break at the same time, is repaired within two days.

  • Regional road: inform Brussel Mobiliteit/Bruxelles Mobilité (Brussels-Capital Region). Report a fault or malfunction in the lighting of a regional road to Brussel Mobiliteit/Bruxelles Mobilité. Call 02 204 22 86, send a fax to 02 204 15 60 or send an e-mail message to mobiris@mrcb.irisnet.be.

Gather together all the details needed to locate the fault beforehand.

  • type of fault
  • postcode and commune
  • street
  • number of the nearest building or number of the street light.

If one or more lights stay on during the day, wait 48 hours before reporting this. In all other cases, it is best to report to malfunction as quickly as possible.
