Who pays for the public lighting?

Public lighting

Sibelga manages and maintains the lighting in the streets, squares and parks in the territory of the 19 communes. This task, together with the promotion of the rational use of energy and the protection of vulnerable customers, forms part of Sibelga’s public service obligations.

All households, companies and other organisations with a connection to the electricity grid contribute towards these costs. The greater the capacity of the connection, the higher the contribution towards the public service obligations.

You pay your public service contribution via the electricity bill received from your energy supplier. For most families this comes to less than EUR 3 per month. On the Sibelga website you will find a table giving all the rates for the various capacities, expressed in kilovolt amperes (kVA).
