What is a green roof?

It is not always possible to have a garden on the ground floor in the city. But the roof can offer you that option. This type of green roof has other advantages as well.

A green roof can have all a conventional garden has, as long as the building's structure has been built to accommodate it. A green roof is also a great solution if you suffer from a lack of space on the ground floor.

Three types of green roofs

There are three different types of green roofs.

The extensive roof garden

The most favoured form is the extensive roof garden. This really only offers an area for succulents to grow. The roof construction is simpler and lighter than the other options.

The semi-intensive roof garden

A semi-intensive roof garden requires a slightly higher roof construction and greater weight-bearing capacity of the structure, but also allows you to use grasses when laying out your greenery.

The intensive roof garden

With this option everything is possible – even trees can be planted, providing the structure of the building has been designed to cope with this.
