What do I have to do with my meter if I move house?

When you leave your old address, you have two possible options for your meters:

  • Note down the meter reading and have it signed

The easiest thing is to keep the meters open and note down the meter readings on the OUT removal form. You should have this signed by the new occupier, the owner or the housing company. Pass your meter readings on to your supplier within seven days and keep the form in a safe place.

  • You may need to have your meters closed

If the new occupier or the owner refuses to sign the removal form, it is in your interest to have the meters closed. This ensures that you cannot be charged for energy used after you have left.
